Dating in 2020
Advice from professional matchmaker, Tammi Pickle. As a matchmaker for the last 20 years, I have heard it all. From app and online dating stories about how people are lying and not authentic about who they are, using a photo that is 10 years old, to saying they make a certain living but really rent a room with five other people. Everyone is trying to be bigger and better, but they are not always genuine. Then you talk and finally meet, but you realize that you have wasted your time again. If people could just be genuine and honest right off the bat, then no one would waste their time or energy talking for weeks or months. Especially because when you finally meet you realize there was no connection in the first place. Everyone is using filters and only the very best photos of themselves and lying about their age or their current state of success. So as a matchmaker, I make sure that I am being truly transparent with all of my members. I only want to make nice, quality introductions where both people are seeing a full picture of who and what that person is all about. Then, and only then, I am able to set up the match based on mutual compatibility and attraction. I pre-meet, screen and interview all of my clients. I feel like I am a friend setting up my friends together. I get and give helpful and critical feedback about what happens on all dates. This always helps my clients in the long run because they are getting important feedback on dates that they would not normally get. They get helpful information on if they said, did or did not do something that they may be able to change in the future to help their chances. It is also helpful to get feedback if that person is interested in seeing them again. There is no ghosting and wondering what you might have said or did on the date, because I am the helpful fly on the wall that hears both sides and can help relay the first date questions that everyone wishes they knew the answers to. I have heard it all and I am able to give this constructive, critical feedback to my clients in a timely manner so they can change their dating habits. I can steer them in the right direction to continue pursuing this person or move on to a better match for them.
For the last 26 years my family-owned matchmaking agency, Elite Connections, has helped match professionals that are wanting to meet the right person and hired us to do the screening for them. We work for busy professionals, high profile and celebrity clients and everyone in between. As a matchmaker some advice I would give my clients or to anyone that is single and dating, is to be open minded. Say yes to opportunities and be the “glass half full” person with positive, electric energy. Have fun, enjoy life and if you are not happy, then work on finding your happiness. Someone else will not make you happy and complete. Find your internal happiness first and then focus on finding someone in your life that brings you up even higher, that will be the cherry on top of the beautiful life you have made for yourself. If you are not happy with your job, change it. Not happy with your weight then make a change. Make every day the best day. Do not put off your life. If you are in a relationship that no longer makes you happy, leave it. You are in charge of your life and no one else can do it for you. If you are single, do something new that you would not normally do. You can only change things by trying, doing things differently and changing up your daily routine. Think outside the box of your normal routine and do something out of the ordinary to meet different types of people. Every single one of my clients worked up the courage to change their lives and put themselves out there in a different way and it pays off. Life is precious and short, let’s all make the very best out of every waking moment. I wish you all joy, happiness and all the love in your lives.
